TWK Agri has the following vacancy available: Head of Group Risk Management within the Finance division at Pretoria, Gauteng.

Job Summary:

The Head of Group Risk is responsible for leading the risk management function across the Group. This role involves developing and implementing risk management strategies, policies, and procedures to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risks that could impact the company's financial performance and overall business objectives, particularly in the context of the agriculture industry. This role will report to the Group CFO.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Risk Management Framework
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework tailored to the industry
  • Ensure the framework aligns with the company's strategic objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Document and communicate the risk management framework, including policies, risk appetite statements, and processes
  1. Risk Identification and Assessment
  • Identify and assess potential risks specific to the agriculture & forestry sector, including financial, operational, environmental, and compliance risks
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and scenario analyses to evaluate the impact of identified risks on the company's operations and financial performance
  • Maintain a risk register that captures all identified risks, their potential impact, and likelihood of occurrence
  1. Risk Mitigation and Control
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans to address identified risks
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to prevent, detect, and mitigate risks
  • Evaluate and implement risk transfer mechanisms, such as insurance, to manage residual risks
  1. Monitoring and Reporting
  • Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) to monitor the effectiveness of risk management activities and identify emerging risks
  • Conduct regular reviews of the risk management framework to ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness
  • Prepare and present regular risk reports to senior management, the board of directors, and other stakeholders, highlighting key risks, mitigation efforts, and changes in the risk profile
  1. Compliance and Regulatory Requirements
  • Ensure the organisation complies with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards related to risk management in the agriculture sector
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations and assess their impact on the company's risk profile
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and business partners, to address risk-related matters
  1. Leadership and Team Management
  • Lead and manage the risk management team, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities
  • Foster a risk-aware culture within the organisation through training and awareness programs
  1. Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and business partners, to address risk-related matters
  • Act as a key point of contact for risk management inquiries and initiatives

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Law or a related field
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in financial risk management within a diversified environment including but not limited to corporate risk, finance, financial services, insurance, agriculture and forestry
  • Relevant certifications
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a senior managerial or leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, methodologies and best practices
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and governance in the agricultural sector
  • Experience in change management, particularly in implementing risk-related strategies
  • Familiarity with financial risk analysis, credit risk, operational risk and environmental risk assessment
  • Ability to foster a risk-aware culture within the organisation
  • Bilingual (Afrikaans and English)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willing to travel
